Visit Of The Giant Tortoises Park (Rodrigues)
Come and meet the Giant Tortoises in Rodrigues! Situated in the southern part of the Rodrigues Island, the Giant Tortoises Park is a 20 hectare nature reserve where you can discover more than 110,000 endemic and native plants as well as the giant tortoises.
Stroll through the reserve along a 2 km long trail and discover an emerging forest and some very rare plants. You will be able to stroll amongst giant tortoises, see the rare Rodrigues fruit bat. You can also opt for a guided tour of the magnificent caves, which is unique to this area of the island. In the caves, you will discover a network of eleven caves, the largest of which is 500 m in length and is called Grande Caverne. You can also admire the beautifully illuminated stalactites and stalagmites. You will also get clues on the history of Rodrigues and its native wildlife and spot the limestone plateau, called Plaine Corail.
As you visit the Giant Tortoises Park museum, you will find 3 separate exhibitions on the history of Rodrigues, the natural history of the island and the limestone geology of the Plaine Corail.
