Home to the second largest crocodilian and one of the largest tortoises in the world, La Vanille Nature Park invites you to discover its unique park through its animals, lush and exotic vegetation, insectarium and museum.
Come and discover this impressive nature park with your family for an amazing experience. Cherish a leisurely stroll around the park consisting of a wide range of awe-inspiring animals (including monkeys, eels, wild boars, bats, iguanas, and deers), spectacular aquarium, children’s corner, insectarium, and a lush green garden.
In addition, enjoy incredible moments with the cute baby crocodile by taking unique pictures. You can also spend some quality time with one of the oldest tortoise (90 years old) of 275 kg, together with the goat and sheep by having a privilege feeding access.
Visit the tortoise nursery to encounter Aldabra giant tortoises and feed them. As part of the visit, you will get to feed the baby tortoises, learn about the breeding programme at La Vanille Nature Park and also have a beautiful photo souvenir with a baby tortoise to immortalize this wonderful experience.
Additionally, you can also savour a delicious lunch with your family in the middle of lush green environment. Inside the park you will find the recommended Hungry Crocodile Restaurant. About La Vanille Nature Park
La Vanille Nature Park is a picturesque and idyllic nature reserve located at Riviere des Anguilles in the South. This nature park extends over 3.5 hectares with a luxuriant vegetation consisting of beautiful palm trees, banana plants, giant bamboo trees and other gorgeous shrubs-reflecting a tropical rainforest setting.
Sanctuary of a variety of animal species such as the Nile crocodiles, tortoises, monkeys, iguanas, bats, deer, geckos, eels, wild boars, and an amazing collection of insects. These animals and insects come from the Mascarene and other southern Indian Ocean Islands, including Rodrigues, Reunion and Mauritius.
You will have the chance to encounter 1,500 Nile Crocodiles (Crocodylus niloticus) which are bred and reared. These crocodiles are all offspring of individual brought from Madagascar to Mauritius in 1985. You can see crocodiles in their different stages of growth, from the young in the nursery through to fully grown adults weighting 500g or more.
The park is also the world’s largest captive breeding centre for giant Aldabra tortoises (Geochelone gigantea) and also breeds the smaller Radiata tortoises (Astrochelys Radiata) with over 500 tortoises of all ages in the reserve.
Visit the insectarium which houses one of the most extensive private insect collections in the world, with more than 23,000 species of impressive coloured and patterned butterflies, beetles, moths and other insects.
